Argument 3 Equality Text

If people had the same morals, then people would feel equal

We started the process by looking for poems of equality. Though we did not really want to use a poem because we already used two of them, but we decided to have a look anyway. We did not find any good poems so we went back to the FPeight website and looked at the types of text we could use. By then Mariana and Emma had an idea. We looked at the fairytale of Brave and then we realized it was a movie so we looked for articles about the movie. We did not find any because all the articles talked about gender equality and we wanted to talk about equality in general. Then we went back to the website and we saw that we could use a mathematical term and Mariana had an idea. Since we were talking about inequalities in math Mariana thought we could apply that to this project. We looked on google but we thought that was to small and did not explain anything. So, Mariana and Emma went to the whiteboard and drew the symbol and saw what we could draw on both sides that would explain it better. Emma suggested that we draw a king and next to it we draw an equal sign but Mariana adjusted her idea and put the king in front of the symbol with he greater than sign and put regular people on the other side. Then Emma said that it did not really represent any text, so Aleksi and Paulis came up with the caption and modified the drawing so it would represent the image better.

We thought this image was good because it represents something totally the opposite but still got the message across. We discussed that this image represents a king who thinks he is better than everyone else and the people are less. We think that if we want to achieve peace we have to put an equal sign instead. The king should not feel greater he should feel the same. We think that one of the reasons he feels greater is because of his job and his importance of society. Even though the kingdoms people are not as important in society they should be treated equally. If it were not for them the king would not play such a big role in society. To relate this to peace we believe that in order to achieve a peaceful and equal world, people have to have the same morals. People should not be treated less or unequal, their voices should be heard and people should not treat them badly based on their impact on society. We are not saying that people are not allowed to be more important then others but they should be treated the same. Workers or kings, we believe if they want their "kingdom" to achieve peace then they all have to be treated equally.

Argument 1 - Agreement - Text

If people were to have the same morals we could come to an agreement

Aleksi and Paulius were on one computer and Emma and Mariana were on another one. While Mariana and Emma were looking for a poem, Paulius and Aleksi were looking for a poem. Firstly, they found a poem that made sense to Aleksi and Paulius, but didn't to Mariana and Emma. Then Paulius and Aleksi tried to explain the meaning to them, but still they didn't get it. So, Aleksi and Paulius looked for another one. Aleksi and Paulius showed another poem to Mariana and Emma who said that it didn't make sense. Paulius then explained to them how this poem relates to agreement. Still Mariana and Emma didn't change their minds. Then we had a fierce discussion about why it would work. Finally, after multiple amounts of explanation, Emma and Mariana understood the meaning.

"TEMPORARY AGREEMENT"

Almost any household item,
When appraised by kitten eyes,
Offers joy Ad Infinitum,
And we learn, with some surprise:
Cupboards are for hiding in,
Curtains are to climb,
Washers are for riding in,
(What a hectic time!)
House plants are for digging paws,
Papers are to tear,
Just the sharpener for claws
Is Dad's upholstered chair.
Yet man and feline share some views
When all is done and said;
When one's inclined to take a snooze,
The other's in the bed.

This poem shows many metaphors about agreement through not only human beings but also animals. First three lines shows the picture of a moral agreement with the owner and the kitten. However, the next line shows the transition between the peaceful times and violent times. Furthermore, the next eight lines are about these violent times between the owner and the kitten, since in those times only the owner tried to create an agreement between the two but the kitten does not want to since it continues to be a model of chaos. Finally, in the last four lines of this poem the two are at peace since now they understand each other, especially the last one. Some lines have a different explanation: "offers joy Ad Infinitum", we think that this fourth line of the poem means, that even if two characters have minor skirmishes, still in the end they have an infinite good times. We think that the line "(what a hectic time!)" means that in this moment the owner understands that the kitten does this as a daily life. Another line with a metaphoric meaning is, "when all is done and said;". Its meaning is that when the human and feline have done everything that was bothering each other and spoken about their problems and tried and succeeded to make an agreement. Basically, it shows that not only people need to have the same morals, to come to an agreement but also other living creatures like animals, also have to be  appreciated by the people. If there is a good relationship between animal and person, that way they could find the joyful connection, that can lead to an agreement and everyone would respect each others morals.

Argument 2 Respect Text

If people had the same morals then people could respect each other

To find this poem we started by searching "Respect Poems" in google. Mariana and Aleksi looked on one computer, and Emma and Paulios looked on one the other computer. Emma and Paulius found one poem but Mariana and Aleksi did not understand and even after a long discussion, they thought it did not go with the topic of respect. Then, Mariana and Aleksi found a poem and we discussed it and we first thought that is was too specific and we wanted more a challenge. We all, on one computer looked for poems just skimming them through. We found one other one but Emma and Mariana did not get it and thought it was way too broad. After that we closed the computer and discussed all the poems we found. We went one by one stating our opinion and listening to each others thoughts. We had two that we really liked and went back and forth discussing which one we thought was best. We liked the first one the most because it talked about all types of respect, which we thought was important.

The Good In Man

I respect, another mans religion, or color or creed.

I respect, and follow, the will of my maker.

I respect, the truth, no matter how unpopular.

I respect, a good work ethic.

I respect, the values on which this country was founded.

I respect, those who would champion the under privileged.

I respect, those of differences, who seek common ground.

I respect, the concept of monogamy.

I respect, those faithful to principal.

I respect, change, that is for the better.

I respect, an honest days work.

I respect, the great talents of the entertainment world.

I respect, thought provoking works, of the written word.

I respect, the unquenchable thirst of creativity.

I respect, the farmers and workers that toil in the field.

I respect, the good in man.

I respect, the virtue in woman.

I respect, the innocence of children.

I respect, the generosity of mankind.

Most of all...I respect the maker of

life and the love, that each of us

have within us.

We think this is a good poem for respect because it talks about all types of respect. It talks about respect towards each other, respect to nature etc. This poem shows that if everyone believes the things portrayed throughout the poem that our world can be a peaceful place. It also says that everyone has love and respect within them. We believe that if everyone had the same morals then their love and respect would show. Another thing is that we think this is trying to send us is that if we respect ourselves we can respect others. To bring this back to morality we believe that to achieve a peaceful place people have to respect each other and themselves. This poem portrays exactly that. Until people come to peace within themselves and torwards other people our definition of peace can not be achieved. However this peace has to come from within, and in order to achieve peace we have to have good morals. If people don't respect others, there will become groups in society and this not peace. Peace is when people are united and where people can be themselves and not be judged or have people disrespecting them.

Argument 1 -Agreement Video

If people were to have the same morals we could come to an agreement

First, we had no ideas what to search because when we searched up agreement but the videos were about Spanish verbs. We were stuck because that was the only things we could find and it had nothing to do with the type of agreement we were talking about. So we started to search up the other two videos we were needing to find for our other argument because we did not want to waste time. Then we finished finding things for the other videos we searched agreement but again only Spanish grammar came up. So, Mariana had an idea. She remembered a video her mom showed her but we couldn't find it. Then Emma said she knew a video. Then after we watched it we did not all agree that it had something to do with agreement . (irony (just for you, Mr. Rudnicki)). Emma explained her thoughts, Mariana then explained hers, next Aleksi explained his and Paulius disagreed. We finally came to an agreement of what we really believe this video was about and that is agreement.

This video shows that the two people agree on the idea that if we need to make a change we can make a change and if we all believed on the same things and agree that the same things have to be changed. Then we can change that, for example, child labor or homelessness. Agreement can change the biggest problems and if we all agreed on the definition of peace or on priorities then everyone can have what they consider as a peaceful world and society. Now, to relate this video to agreement then we can definitely see how two people can make a change then lets try to imagine if it would be all of the 7 billion people. We believe this relates morality because we talked about the biggest aspects in peace is that two people have the same idea to make a change. To relate this back to peace we think that problems can be solved or even the problem might not exist. Because people wouldn't kick people out if they would believe that people shouldn't kick people out of their houses, since the government would have a different mentality. This is one just example of how people would act if they would understand each other. 

Argument 2 Video

If people have the same morals they would respect each other

Emma and Mariana were looking on YouTube for videos about respect, while Aleksi and Paulius were looking on another computer. Mariana and Emma saw that when they typed respect the second video that came up was an X-Factor audition. Then we watched and though it had nothing to do with respect. As we were watching the video, Emma realized she knew a good video we could use. As I watched the video I did not understand but Emma explained to me why she believed it had to do with respect. After when Mariana understood, we decided to show Paulius and Aleksi. They said that they also did not understand the video so then Emma and Mariana explained it to them to. Mariana and Emma also thought it had to do with agreement because the two girls kept fighting because they could not agree on anything for example the song. Aleksi and Paulius insisted that it related more to respect . We had a big argument which one it fit into better if it was agreement or respect. After a while Mariana joined Paulius and Aleksi's side and Emma started explaining why she though agreement was better. Lastly, Mariana explained Emma why it related more to respect and Emma agreed.

We think this relates to respect because this is a perfect example of how people can get so angry with each other that they can not control their anger and end up hitting each other. If we relate this to morality then we believe these situations can be avoided because people would believe the same thing, have the same morals therefore believe the same manners. To create a peaceful place there should be no verbal or physical violence. If people have such a bad attitude towards one another and the other person feel hurt of their abuse then they will have to be disrespectful. This relates t our argument because these girl obviously agree with each others actions or even decisions. As one of the judges said "can you guys agree on that?" it shows that there was conflict before hand. If these girls could have come to an agreement then they would not be so disrespect full to each other. In addition the audience also thought they were disrespectful and from then on there was a gap created between the two girls and the audience, which is against what we believe part of peace is equality.
